No-Sew Tank Top from an Old T-Shirt

These have to be some of my favorite summer tank tops.

Let me show you what to do:

The photo below shows me cutting the sleeve from the wrong side.

Cut the sleeve open from the side that has the seam.

If you were still wearing the shirt it would be the part under your armpit.
(THANK YOU DIY'er for finding this mistake!)

There it is!
Summer Perfection.

 Enjoy!

    1. tried this and neckline was a bit indiscreet on the larger chest, but found an easy fix just tie a few more strips a little higher in the back and the neckline comes up giving more a draped effect in the front, not exactly as pictured but still cute and keeps the girls just peeking out without hanging, also if you need a little extra support without wearing a bra under this a fitted tube top either in a matching or contrasting color works really well, and it helped on the sides to cut right underneath the arm seams instead of below also for the bigger chested gal, awesome tutorial, I have a stack of old boxy family reunion/volunteer tshirts destined for the rag bin that will now be reused, and with the way you have it cut I can use them on the wrong side and just have the color without the annoying logo's awesome tutorial!!

  5. I tried a similar tutorial and after trying it, I found that the back tie holds better in the wash if you cut one long piece and wind it in a figure 8 around the straps.

  6. I always wear cheap men tank tops for school. I used to collect every color for every design. I transferred to a school which requires their students to wear their so ugly school uniform. Thanks!

  12. One of your steps/pictures is wrong. Where you show where to cut the sleeve before you make the strips, you are showing the wrong place to cut. Luckily had 2 sleeves and only needed one. :)

  18. Thanks for this tutorial! I've been wanting to try to make a cute tank top out of a T-shirt (and maybe embellish it a bit afterwards). I think I'll sew some seams along the edges, too, just to stop fraying and rolling. I will do this as soon as I get my hands on a T-shirt I'd like to sacrifice to the cause. :)

P.S. I like the tattoo between your shoulder blades. What language is that?

  46. I needed a cover-up for my bikin top I wear when mowing the lawn. I am not a bikini girl, more tankini. I had a Temu top that fit weird, it was supposed to have a draping look with runching, instead it looked ridiculous. Using your idea I was able to make it into the best tank top I now own. It fits perfectly and didn't sag at the armpits. It looks great almost too good to wear for yard work
